The Union government on Friday formally announced the appointment of the former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, K. Rosaiah, as the Tamil Nadu Governor. He is among four new Governors, whose appointments were announced by the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
While Jharkhand Governor M.O.H. Farook has been transferred to Kerala for the remainder of his term, Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan was asked to discharge the functions of the Governor of Goa for the remainder of his term in addition to his own duties.
Mr. Rosaiah, 78, replaces Surjit Singh Barnala, who took over the post on June 20, 2006. Mr. Rosaiah took over as Chief Minister on September 3, 2009 after the death of the then Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, in a helicopter crash, and held the post till November 24, 2010.

The terms of both Mr. Sankaranarayanan and Mr. Farook (73) end in January 2015.
The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Ram Naresh Yadav (83), was appointed the Madhya Pradesh Governor and the former Kerala Assembly Speaker, Vakkom Purushothaman, has been named as the Governor of Mizoram. Syed Ahmed, a former Maharashtra Minister, has been appointed Jharkhand Governor. “Their appointments will take effect from the dates they assume their respective charges,'' says a Rashtrapati Bhavan communiqué.
Mr. Farook, who took over as Jharkhand Governor on January 22, 2010, was Ambassador to Saudi Arabia from September 2004 to December 2009.

Octogenarian Vakkom B Purushothaman is a veteran Congress leader from Vakkom in Kerala. He has been a member of the All India Congress Committee for over 25 years. Mr. Purushothaman, an advocate, was the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands for three years from March 1993. He was also a member of the Lok Sabha during 1984-89 and 1989-91.
