Forum seeks extension of four passenger trains

October 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - SALEM:

The Salem Railway Users Forum has urged the Salem Railway Division to extend four passenger trains – Tirunelveli-Erode, Tiruchi-Erode, Coimbatore-Erode and Palakkad-Erode passengers, to Salem.

The extension of these trains will provide the commuters of Salem direct train connectivity to centres like Tiruchi and Tirunelveli. With double track available in the Salem – Erode section, the extension will lead to no congestion in the section, a memorandum of the Salem Railway Users Forum presented to Shubhranshu, Divisional Railway Manager, said here on Friday said.

The memorandum also the DRM to extend the Erode – Jolarpet passenger to Katpadi and this provides connectivity to Tirupathi passengers. The Forum also sought for halting the Chennai Central – Thiruvananthapuram weekly air-conditioned train at Salem and Podanur stations. The present day railway announcements through the public address system at the railway stations are preceded by the advertisements. This only confused the people waiting at the railway stations. These advertisements should be done away with. The Railways could make revenue through various other avenues, the memorandum said.
