Kamaraj accused of defrauding realtor of ₹30 lakh

R. Kamaraj, Minister for Food, Tamil Nadu Government.

The Mannargudi police in Tiruvarur district have filed a case against State Food Minister R. Kamaraj and his brother-in-law Ramakrishnan, a State government employee, following a complaint preferred by a real estate dealer, alleging that the accused had defrauded him of ₹30 lakh.

Alleging undue delay in taking cognisance of the case, the complainant moved the Supreme Court, which directed the police to register the case.

In his complaint dated March 10, 2015, real estate dealer S.V.S. Kumar of Keezha Vazhachery in Tiruvarur district claimed that he gave ₹30 lakh to Mr. Ramakrishnan and Mr. Kamaraj for helping him vacate encroachments in his property in Chennai.

However, they neither helped him clear the encroachments nor did they return the money, Mr. Kumar said, adding that they had threatened him with dire consequences when he demanded the money back.

Subsequently, Mr. Kumar approached the Supreme Court, stating that the Mannargudi police were not taking cognisance of his complaint and negating his efforts to file a case against the Minister and his kin.

The Supreme Court, posting the hearing to May 8 and directed the police to file an affidavit on the developments and action taken on the complaint.
