Police personnel dealing with child sexual abuse cases were asked to follow the norms so that the victims are protected and the accused convicted on time.
At a training programme for Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors in rural areas on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 here recently, Superintendent of Police G. Subbulakshmi said that due care should be taken so that the victims were protected and produced before the magistrate within 24 hours and subjected to medical examination on time.
She said that the set of standards in the law should be followed in protecting the best interests of the victims. She asked officers to expedite the process so that the accused were produced in court and the legal proceedings began soon.

Lawyer Ramasamy explained the procedures in recording statement of the child so that the child understood the contents being recorded. Also, admitting the child to a hospital or shelter home within 24-hours was mandatory by the law, he added. He also explained that the police officer while recording the statement should not be in uniform and that the victim should not be kept in police station.
