A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Friday directed the Centre and State governments to give their views in response to a writ petition challenging the Centre’s order banning fishing in the high seas off the coast of Kerala for 61 days from June 1.

The Bench comprising Justice T.R. Ramachandran Nair and Justice P.B. Suresh Kumar asked the Assistant Solicitor General of India appearing for the Centre, and the State government pleader to file a statement indicating their views in this regard.

In its petition, the Cochin Traditional Fishermen Association said the Centre had banned fishing by all type of vessels for 61 days from June 1 in the high seas.
