Fill vacancies in High Court immediately: PMK leader

August 26, 2013 02:35 am | Updated 02:35 am IST - MADURAI:

Pattali Makkal Katchi president G.K. Mani on Sunday urged the judiciary, the Centre and the State governments to fill the vacancies in the Madras High Court for speedy justice.

“The sanctioned strength of judges in the Madras High Court is 60. But we have only 49 judges. Besides, around 300 posts for staff members are lying vacant. Justice delayed is justice denied. Therefore, the vacancies should be filled immediately,” Mr. Mani told mediapersons.

He accused the AIADMK government of foisting cases on his party leaders, including S. Ramadoss, Anbumani Ramadoss and J. Guru, as the government was “unable to tolerate the growth” of the PMK.

Mr.Mani urged the State to provide adequate police security during occasions such as Thevar Jayanthi and the anniversary of the Maruthu brothers.

He said the State should not spend its revenue on freebies, but on providing free and compulsory education to students. “Free and compulsory higher education should be provided to all students and suitable employment opportunities must be created. Quality medical care should be provided to the people free of cost and subsidised fertilizer should be given to agriculturalists for better farm productivity”, he said.
