Filing of nominations for Yercaud by-poll from tomorrow

Filing of nominations for the Yercaud Assembly by-election will begin on November 9.

According to Returning Officer (RO) and District Adi Dravida and Tribal Welfare Officer T. Sabapathy, nominations can be filed from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on all days from November 9 to 16 (excluding November 10 and 14).

Nominations will be scrutinised on November 18, while the last date for withdrawal is November 20. The RO has given a set of guidelines to be followed by candidates and political parties at the time of filing of nomination. “Candidates should come only in vehicles that are permitted to be used by them for their campaign. The permit should be pasted in front of the vehicle. The candidate should not come in more than three permitted vehicles.”

The RO said the vehicles should be parked 100 meters away from the entrance of the District Collectorate. “A maximum of five persons, including the candidate, will be allowed inside the office of the Returning Officer to file the nominations,” Mr. Sabapathy said.

Materials carrying CM pictures to be covered

District Collector and District Election Officer (DEO) K. Maharabushanam said Chief Election Officer (CEO) Praveen Kumar instructed to cover the materials carrying or displaying the pictures of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in the constituency. “We received the instructions from him over phone on Thursday evening. The orders are expected to reach us in print on Friday,” he added.
