Explosives substance seized, four held

Two tonnes of ammonium nitrate was seized and four persons were arrested for possessing the explosives substance at Naaripuram in Bagalur here on Friday.

The arrest came after the HUDCO police patrol intercepted a mini-lorry loaded with 120 sacks, claimed to be sodium nitrate, parked near a factory in Naaripuram. However, inquiries revealed that the sacks contained ammonium nitrate, but were billed as sodium nitrate. The vehicle had Andhra Pradesh registration.

On interrogation, Siva, the driver, and Kitta, cleaner, had confessed to have loaded ammonium nitrate from Rajashree Chemicals in Nalgonda and were heading to Maathi Syamsettihalli in Karnataka. They were to pick up two persons, Chandrasekar and Moorthy, at Bagalur before they headed off to Bengaluru where it was to be dropped off at Talli Vengata Stone Crusher unit. The police arrested all four accused under Sections 4 and 5 of The Explosive Substances Act 1908. They were later remanded.
