Tuticorin, the second largest industrial hub in Tamil Nadu, should take off in a big way with logistic support, R. Jayakumar, Executive Vice-President (Works), DCW Ltd, Sahupuram, said in his special address on the fifth edition of ‘Conference on Logistics’, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here on Friday.
Tuticorin had rail and air links but to make logistics more effective, the current railway network should be expanded and airport modernised to accommodate international flights, he said.
Since India had 15,000 km of navigable waterways and a 7,500- km-long coastline, emphasis should be laid on coastal shipping, which was a thing of the future, he noted.

He said coastal shipment was advantageous to ensure safe cargo transit.
This mode of shipment would help in cost reduction, road traffic reduction, prompt delivery of goods without theft, diesel consumption and subsidy would also be down, he said.
