Accusing the Edappadi K. Palaniswami-led government of having failed to stop the proposed India-based Neutrino Observatory (INO) project in Theni, AMMK founder T.T.V. Dhinakaran on Saturday said that the people of Tamil Nadu would soon show his regime the door.
“At a time when eco-conscious groups like Poovulagin Nanbargal are fighting tooth-and-nail against the project, the State government should have raised its own objections strongly. Instead, it chose to remain silent,” Mr. Dhinakaran said. “The people are frustrated. All the self-appointed VVIPs of the AIADMK may have their last opportunity to face the public [in the upcoming elections] as they will be voted out...” he said.
“This is the beginning of the end of this mismanaged rule,” he said, adding, “The government has brought the AIADMK’s image to a new low. The ensuing bypolls would set the tone for a change in governance.”

Token fast
The AMMK functionaries, led by the party’s propaganda secretary Thanga Tamilselvan, observed a token fast, condemning the State government for ‘neglecting’ 18 Assembly constituencies, the MLAs of which had switched loyalties to Mr. Dhinakaran.
Mr. Thanga Tamilselvan said the tax authorities couldn’t find any incriminating evidence while conducting searches at premises belonging to Mr. Dhinakaran. But this was not the case when the Health Minister’s properties were searched. “I appeal to the tax authorities to carry out searches in Theni, Periyakulam and other pockets, as they could find a huge amount of unaccounted cash amassed by these AIADMK VVIPs,” he said.

The AMMK, he said, would face the bypolls in all the 20 vacant Assembly constituencies whenever they were held.
