Earth Hour observed

Worldwide Fund for Nature- India involved college and school students in its Earth Hour programme - 2015 in the district on Saturday.

Students of Bannariamman Institute of Technology and Government Middle School, Kanakkampalayam observed the event by switching off lights for an hour from 8.30 p.m. At BIT, 124 students were engaged in an awareness programme addressed by N. Ravikumar, Assistant Coordinator WWF-India, and K.V. Kiruthikaa, Assistant Professor. The objective was to stop or minimise power usage for the duration on the last Saturday of every March, N. Krishna Kumar, Project officer, WWF-India, Western Ghats Nilgiris Landscape, said. A similar programme at Kanakkampalayam Middle School was convened by headmistress M.K. Sumadhi.
