As part of the drought relief measures undertaken by the Tamil Nadu government, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Tuesday ordered remittance of ₹2,247 crore as farm input relief assistance to over 32 lakh farmers who have suffered crop losses.
An order to release the remittances to the bank accounts of these farmers at the earliest was issued during a meeting chaired by him on Tuesday.
A nine-member team visited the drought-affected areas across the State between January 23 and 25.

As per the estimates of the team, crops cultivated in over 50.34 lakh acres owned by about 32 lakh farmers have been affected and a remedial assistance of ₹2,247 crore would have to be provided.
As per the guidelines of the State Disaster Response Fund, a relief amount of ₹5,465 an acre would be granted for irrigation crops, ₹3,000 an acre for crops cultivated under dry farming, ₹7,287 an acre for long-term crops and up to ₹3,000 an acre for land under sericulture.
