Draft list released

District Collector T. Munusamy released the draft list of district’s socio-economic and caste-wise survey, covering a total population of 12.82 lakh in 3,24,484 households in urban and rural areas. The draft list would be displayed in village panchayats, block offices and taluk offices in rural areas and town panchayats, municipalities and taluk offices in urban areas for the next 21 days for the public to submit their claim and objections, an official release here said. The draft list, preparation of which, began in 2011, has covered 8.49 lakh population in 2,35,710 households in rural and 3.54 lakh population in 88,774 households in urban areas, including 12 town panchayats and three municipalities, the release said. Details of the socio economic status of the people such as educational qualification, nature of employment, type of houses, vehicles owned, lands owned and marital status have been enumerated in the draft list. Though it was called caste-wise survey the draft list had only three categories – scheduled caste, backward classes and others, official sources said. After the verification, the final list would be published on June 18 for rural and June 25 for urban areas, she said.
