A day after they were summarily sacked by the AIADMK government, over 12,000 village welfare workers across the State got widespread political support, with major parties and trade unions demanding their reinstatement.
Appointees of erstwhile DMK regimes, the workers held protests and their union decided to go to court against the decision. At the same time, they appealed to the Chief Minister to consider the plight of their families as they found themselves jobless overnight.
