Governor Banwarilal Purohit urged doctors to educate their patients about the procedures that would be performed on them. It is necessary that the health care industry is accountable for the services they provide, he said.
Mr. Purohit, who distributed awards to 21 hospitals in the State for their service to the society, at a function which was part of the business initiatives of The Hindu Group Publishing Private Limited, said he hoped that the awardees would carry forward their legacy of providing best services to the people. The doyens who received awards had risen by their hard work and brought pride to their families, he said and lauded their commitment to serve the society.

Public health
In his speech, Mr. Gandhi said public health should be of prime importance. He said the healthcare for senior citizens should receive more attention.
Health Minister C. Vijaya Baskar explained the services provided by the government and the achievements of the public health care institutions in the State. The State had been made the hub of healthcare, thanks to private healthcare providers, said Health secretary J. Radhakrishnan.

Badrinath, chairman of Sankara Nethralaya, and the government district headquarters hospitals of Cuddalore, Padmanabhapuram in Kanyakumari district, Pollachi and Manapparai. N.
