‘Do not close railway reservation counter’

January 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - Sivaganga:

Shops downed shutters here on Monday, protesting against the Southern Railway’s move to close the reservation counter at the Sivaganga station.

Sivaganga Chamber of Commerce president S. Arivuthilagam said the reservation counter was functioning since 2002 and the railway proposed to close the counter on the ground that it was not viable. The chamber was also opposed to the move to hand over the counter to a private party, he said.

Deploring the railway’s decision to close down the counter at the district headquarters, he said the people of Sivaganga would have to go all the way to Manamadurai or Karaikudi for reserving tickets if the counter was closed.
