Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker P. Dhanapal on Wednesday said a decision on the request for discussion on the achievements of DMK leader M. Karunanidhi, who has completed 60 years since he was first elected a legislator in 1957, would be taken after consultation with Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami.

On Wednesday, many DMK MLAs including party leader in the Assembly M.K. Stalin, deputy leader Duraimurugan, whip R. Chakrapani, and Congress Legislative Party leader K.R. Ramasamy submitted private member resolutions seeking a debate to record the achievements of Mr. Karunanidhi.

“He has an unparalleled record and also functioned as the Chief Minister of the State for five times,” said a DMK MLA, who has presented a resolution after participating in the Business Advisory Committee meeting convened by the Speaker.

Later, talking to reporters, Mr. Stalin said the DMK had submitted a few requests and they had been accepted.

Asked about the report that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had agreed to unveil the portrait of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, he said he would express his views after Mr. Modi confirmed his participation.

He said DMK’s performance in the House would fulfil the expectations of the people.
