DMK MP K.Shivakumar alias J.K.Ritheesh, representing the Ramanathapuram parliamentary constituency, was arrested by Anti-Land Grabbing Cell personnel here on Wednesday on charges of preparing a forged power of attorney document to effect a land deal.

According to the Additional Superintendent of Police, Kancheepuram, V.Baskaran, on October 28 this year, E.Samikannu of Pappankuzhi in Sriperumpudur taluk, a farmer, lodged a complaint against the Ramanathapuram MP with the Superintendent of Police, Kancheepuram Police District, S.Manoharan.

In his complaint, Samikannu claimed that the DMK MP had prepared a fake power of attorney document relating to his (Samikannu's) land measuring 1.47 acres in Pappankuzhi in 2009.

Ritheesh used the forged document to get the land registered in the name of Hathor Realtors Private Limited, New Delhi, in which the MP had an interest, in the same year.

Samikannu claimed that though the fake power of attorney document carried his photograph, the signature and the thumb impression found in the document were not his.

The complaint was forwarded to the Anti-Land Grabbing Cell, where the ALGC personnel obtained the signature and thumb impressions of the complainant. They were sent to the fingerprint bureau along with the ‘forged power of attorney' and other registration documents for verification.

The results of verification confirmed the allegation made by the complainant against the MP and hence a first information report was filed against Ritheesh three days ago by Investigation Officer Nandakumar, the ASP said.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the MP had bought 1.07 acres of land belonging to Samikannu's family in three instalments prior to 2008.

A case under sections 465, 467, 468, 471 and 420 read with section 109 of IPC was filed against him.
