Three DMK councillors in Batlagundu town panchayat council were suspended on Tuesday. All other councillors from the party walked out of the council meeting in protest against it.
When the panchayat’s head clerk, Dharmaraj, started presenting the resolution at the Batlagundu town panchayat council meeting presided over by chairman Susindara Pandian, ward 5 councillor Durai Pandi (DMK) insisted that the staff stop reading the resolution.
When he refused to oblige, the councillor tried to snatch the copy of resolution from him. AIADMK and DMK councillors got engaged in a heated argument over the unruly behaviour of Durai Pandi.

The meeting was completely paralysed.
The chairman, who could not restore calm, suspended Durai Pandi and ward 2 councillor Marudhu and asked them to leave the hall.

Condemning the suspension, other DMK councillors sat on the floor and staged a demonstration. Tension gripped the hall.
Police were summoned to evacuate agitators. Meanwhile, ward 17 councillor Akilan (DMK) tore the copy of resolution. He was also suspended.
The chairman alleged that DMK councillors did not like the open auction conducted for shops inside Batlagundu bus stand and protested to it indirectly.
But the DMK councillors said they were not allowed to speak about public issues in the meeting.
