All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary and Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, on Saturday wound up her three-day-long campaign for local bodies' polls slated for Monday and Wednesday, by touring Vellore and several parts of the expanded Chennai Corporation.
Both in Vellore and Chennai, she charged Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) councillors with having grabbed lands of people and indulged in extortion. Instead of improving civic amenities in the two corporations, the councillors had themselves turned crorepatis.

The Chief Minister explained to voters of Chennai and Vellore how her government, in the last five months, had fulfilled many promises made at the time of Assembly elections. She also told them that her government was taking strong action against those who were involved in land grabbing during the previous DMK regime. She repeated the promise to make Tamil Nadu free of power cuts from next year.
In Vellore, Ms. Jayalalithaa, who campaigned for her party's Mayoral candidate P. Karthiyayini, assured the voters that work on the Mettur drinking water supply project and a flyover in front of the Christian Medical College would be taken up.
In Chennai, Ms. Jayalalithaa, who sought support for her party Mayoral candidate Saidai S. Duraisamy, covered seven places in about three hours. Starting from Alandur around 1.30 p.m., Ms Jayalalithaa spoke at Ashok Nagar, Arumbakkam, Padi-Korattur junction, Aynavaram and Otteri before concluding her campaign at Pushpa Nagar, Nungambakkam, at 4.15 p.m.

Employing the slogan of “Clean Chennai, clean administration in municipal corporation,” the AIADMK general secretary assured the voters that if elected, her party candidates would never go against the interests of people. The administration of the civic body would be honest, efficient, clean and transparent. It would be governed only by the interests of the public.
Referring to the Anna Arivalayam controversy, she said that what she had stated earlier was that the name of former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran did not find a mention in the deed document for Anna Arivalayam, housing the headquarters of the DMK. But, she did not say that the name of MGR was not included in the deed document for the DMK Trust.
