Actor-politician Vijayakant’s Desiya Murporku Dravidar Kazhagam (DMDK) on Monday launched a campaign against corruption, ahead of the Ulundurpet conference on February 2 where the party would declare its alliance for the Lok Sabha election.

Parrying questions on whether the DMDK would distance itself from the Congress or other parties facing allegations of corruption, party youth wing secretary L.K. Sudheesh said a decision on alliance would be made only after consulting the cadre and people. The DMDK would form the government in Tamil Nadu in 2016 and provide corruption-free governance, he said.

Asked whether the party was following the Aam Aadmi Party model by taking on corruption, Mr. Sudheesh said Mr. Vijayakant had announced, when the party was launched in 2005, that the primary agenda was to abolish corruption.

A wrist band inscribed with the slogan would be distributed to students, youth and workers across the State to create awareness of the evils of corruption and the urgent need to eradicate the menace, DMDK propaganda secretary V.C. Chandrakumar said, adding that extensive campaign against corruption would be launched through radio, television and social network sites.
