‘No decision yet on poll alliances for Lok Sabha election’

Collective leadership: Deputy Chief Minister and AIADMK Coordinator O. Panneerselvam and Chief Minister and co-coordinator Edappadi K. Palaniswami at the district secretaries’ meeting of the party.

AIADMK’s organising secretary and Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar on Friday expressed the hope that secretaries of the district units of the party will fall in line with any decision to be taken by the leadership on alliance with other parties for the Lok Sabha polls.

“They [the district secretaries] have been cooperating [with the leadership]. So, there has been no problem. There will be no problem,” Mr. Jayakumar told reporters attending a meeting of secretaries of Ministers and other senior office-bearers at the party headquarters here.

He was responding to queries whether the views of the district secretaries were sought on the issue of alliance. He maintained that the question of alliance had not been discussed at the meeting.

Apart from a review of arrangements for the celebration of birth anniversary of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, the functionaries were urged by the leadership to ensure closer interaction with the people and the formation of booth-level committees. He dismissed as baseless reports of the break-up of parliamentary seats being shared by the party with its possible allies.

He claimed that even some parties which were now with the DMK had approached the AIADMK for accommodation in the proposed alliance.
