DGP denies report

April 02, 2012 11:53 pm | Updated July 13, 2016 09:05 am IST - CHENNAI:

Tamil Nadu Director General of Police K. Ramanujam on Monday refuted a report in a Sri Lankan newspaper that stated 150 cadres of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) had undergone special arms training in three secret camps in Tamil Nadu and entered Sri Lanka posing as fishermen for carrying out a destabilisation campaign.

Describing the report as “totally baseless,” he said there were no such training camps in the State. A similar report had surfaced in Sri Lanka recently and it was later retracted by seeking to put the blame falsely on the Indian media.

Militant and extremist organisations remained banned and a strict vigil was being maintained to curb any overt or covert activities. There was no question of any training camps functioning or being allowed to function in the State, he added.
