The government is keen on ensuring the welfare of women and is implementing various development activities to ensure their socio-economic status in the society, said the Assistant Project Officer of Mahalir Thittam, A.Yuvensia Antony Ammal.

Presiding over the Women’s Day celebrations organised by Development Promotion Group at Pradhapuram near Velankanni on Wednesday, she told women entrepreneurs that formation of self-help groups had paved the way for their dignity, self-respect and decision making authority in the family. It had proved that women were second to none while taking the final decision in the family matters. She stressed the need for members of various SHGs to develop their skills in various fields. The Mahalir Thittam was ready to extend all kinds of assistance to SHGs to take up economic activities so that they could stand on their own legs.

He asked them to approach the NABARD for conducting training programmes. R.Bakthar Salomon, CEO of the federation, and S. Kalaivani, executive committee member, spoke.
