Dengue prevention: Collector seeks public cooperation

Collector Sajjansingh R. Chavan has directed the officials of three municipalities, 55 town panchyats and 95 village panchayats in Kanyakumari district to take preventive measures against mosquito-borne diseases including dengue in view of the monsoon season.

After inspecting the cleaning activities undertaken by the sanitary workers in Veerapuli area in Thadikkarankonam in Thovalai panchayat union on Friday, Mr. Chavan directed the officials to desilt drainage canals and prevent chocking of the canals with garbage to prevent breeding of mosquitoes.

Mr. Chavan also directed the TNSTC officials to keep the premises of Ranithottam depot clean.

Later, he inspected a few residential areas such as Vaniyakudi, Reethapuram. He appealed to the public to cooperate and prevent stagnation of water in front of their houses and their surroundings in order to prevent breeding of mosquitoes and avoid outbreak of mosquito-borne diseases.

He asked the officials to take up all anti-dengue measures and ensure cleanliness of water tanks in households.

Earlier, Mr. Chavan flagged off an awareness rally taken out by school and college students in front of the Government Higher Secondary School in Thovalai.

Deputy Director (Health Services) M. Madhusoodhanan, Assistant Director of Village Panchayats S. Nazeer Babu, Assistant Director of Town Panchayats Madasamy Sundarraj and TNSTC Nagercoil Region General Manager Thiruvambalam among other officials accompanied the Collector.
