In the wake of dengue cases getting reported at periodic intervals, different departments have commenced awareness programmes and prevention activities to control the spread of viral fever and dengue within the Tirupur Corporation limits.
Deputy Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine R. Raghupathy told The Hindu that 27 cases of dengue had been confirmed in the district since January 1 of which 80 per cent were from the city limits. “This year, one death has occurred while no one died in 2014 out of the 189 dengue cases reported from the district,” he said.
Considering the gravity of the situation, the Corporation administration had commenced setting up medical camps by rotation in various schools and deployed people outsourced for tracing city residents with viral fever and symptoms of dengue.

“These outsourced manpower, along with Corporation staff, have also been entrusted with the responsibility of going door-to-door to reduce the sources that help breed the Aedes Aegypti mosquito that spread the virus that spread dengue and create awareness among the people about the preventive measures,” City Health Officer R. Selvakumar said.
Meanwhile, the Information and Public Relations Department had started screening of videos on the methods that needed to be followed to reduce the possibilities of contracting dengue and viral fever. The videos, prepared by the department, were screened at 15 places on Wednesday. Leaflets containing instructions on preventive measures were also distributed.
