April 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - SALEM:

The members of minority communities staged a demonstration with their hands tied at the back and closing their mouth with ribbon in front of the collectorate here on Saturday to condemn the attack on churches and nuns in various parts of the country.

They said that people belonging to various religions were living peacefully in the country so far, which was commended world over. Of late, there has been repeated attack on the minorities, in particular on the churches. The Christian nuns were being targeted, much to the concern of the whole society.

These attacks have brought disrepute to the entire nation, they alleged. They condemned the stoic silence maintained by both the Centre and the State Governments on the recurring attacks on the Christians.

Such attacks will only harm the overall interest and development of the country. These attacks have created fear psychosis among the people of the minority communities.

They demanded the Centre and the State Governments to take effective steps for bringing to book all those involved in these unwanted incidents and prevent the recurrence of the same.

I. Gregory Rajan, parish priest and rector, Infant Jesus Cathedral, Arisipalayam, led the agitation.
