With the start of ‘Kathiri Veyil’, the demand for ‘cool fruits’ and juice items has gone up in the city.

Apart from the watermelon and sugarcane juice, the golden cucumber fruit has started to fill the roadsides in the city as it is considered as one of the best fruit for the summer. The yellowish fruit in various shapes is available at affordable cost ranging from Rs. 100 to Rs. 130 per fruit of four kg. The fruit is procured mainly from Chinna Salem and Attur areas and sold across the city. Traders said that the availability of quality watermelon had reduced and customers also look for alternative fruit to cool themselves when the summer is at peak. Hence, golden cucumber was considered a best fruit to keep them cool, they added.

Since most of the fruit is sold along roadside, customers said that they were able to choose the right fruit at the right price.
