The inordinate delay in the execution of the road under bridge (RUB) project near the railway level crossing No: 133 in the city is inviting the wrath of residents and activists here.
Though the railway portion of the RUB has almost been completed, the works on the approach roads to lead the vehicular traffic into the tunnel and out of it as well as the service bridges on both sides are yet to be carried out.
The RUB was taken up under the Railways Work Programme on a cost sharing basis between Indian Railways and the State government in January 2011 and was expected to be completed in 18 months, but got delayed for various reasons.

The project was one of the long pending demands of the people to ease the heavy traffic clogs experienced along the Tirupur-Uthukuli highway every time the level crossing gate was closed.
Representing the cause, the Tirupur Consumer Voice has now written a fresh letter to the Divisional Engineer of Highways seeking information on the status of the project.

“Apart from the present delay, the project has already been lagging behind by several years considering the fact that it was first included in the Railway Works Programme as early as in 2007-08, but did not take off due to vague reasons,” TCV secretary P. Somasundaram told The Hindu .
With the works on service bridges and that of approach roads on the Bridgeway colony-end and Tirupur-Uthukuli road-end yet to commence, the people in the industrially buzzing Kongu Nagar are sceptical whether their dream project for an easier access to Tirupur-Uthukuli road and to other arterial roads in the southern portion of the railway track could get completed within the current fiscal.
