Customised bikes given to 41 differently-abled persons

District Collector M. Karunakaran handed over customised bikes to 41 differently-abled persons in a meeting held at the Collectorate on Saturday.

Addressing the meeting, Dr. Karunakaran said the National Identity Cards for the physically challenged had been given to 49,977 persons in the district and 29,571 persons had registered themselves with the welfare board so that they could get a range of welfare assistance being given by the State and the Central governments.

While educational assistance had been extended to 2,330 differently-abled, monthly assistance of Rs. 1,000 each was being given to 6,600 physically and mentally challenged persons.

Moreover, 325 sewing machines, 108 customised bikes and financial assistance to 120 persons for starting their business ventures had been given so far, the Collector said.

Laptops

He also handed over free laptops to 63 hearing impaired students and other equipment to the disabled.

MPs K.R.P. Prabhakaran and Vasanthi Murugesan, Mayor E. Bhuvaneshwari, District Disability Rehabilitation Officer Manoharan and others participated in the meeting.
