Cultivate reading habit, youth told

The importance of cultivating reading habit to come out successfully in the UPSC examinations was stressed by A. Amalraj, City Police Commissioner.

The youth interested in appearing for the UPSC examinations should make it a regular habit to update the current affairs. Going through newspapers would immensely help them improve their general knowledge, which would play a vital role in their performance in the UPSC exams, Mr. Amalraj said while speaking at the ‘Aiyam Theli’, an interactive career guidance programme held for Plus-Two students here on Friday.

The event was brought up by the Sona College of Technology in the city.

Mr. Amalraj explained the preparations to be made to appear for the civil services examinations and also the opportunities available in this field.

He also urged the youth to shun inhibitions and gain confidence to face and overcome the future challenges.

The Hindu was the media partner for the event.

Marabin Mainthan Muthiah, motivational speaker, and C. Kumaresan, vice-president, Polaris Financial Sector, spoke.

D. Ganesan, HR manager, L and T Valves, Coimbatore, and A. Muthukumar, director, Launch Pad, Chennai, explained the importance to be given in selecting the right college for pursuing higher education.

G. Soma Sundaram, manager, HR Jockey, India, covered the opportunities available for youth in fashion designing field.

K. Karunakaran, Dean, Sona College of Technology, handled the session on ‘facing the Anna University counselling’.

Chacko Valliappa and Thiagu Valliappa, vice chairmen of the Sona Group of Institutions, explained the various facilities available in their institutions.
