It is the duty of the Coastal Security Group (CSG) of the Tamil Nadu police to safeguard 12 nautical miles from seashore, according to C. Sylendra Babu, Additional Director General of Police, CSG.
The CSG would soon get 30 more stations, said Mr. Babu, who led a coastal sail vessel expedition, with a crew of 12 marine police personnel, two Indian Coast Guard personnel and two Army personnel. The expedition started in Chennai on February 23.
The expedition, launched by the CSG in association with the ICG, had so far covered around 1,000 km, Mr. Babu said.

He told reporters that the aim of the expedition was to continue the good relationship between the fishermen and the police. Village vigilance awareness programmes were conducted across the State as part of the expedition. Besides, sports competitions involving fishermen were organised.
In the return direction, the expedition would start from Kanyakumari, he added.
The expedition team was given rousing reception near Gandhi Mandapam in Kanyakumari on Tuesday evening by Collector Sajjansingh R. Chavan.
