The Puducherry unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has urged Chief Minister N. Rangasamy to “break his silence” over the controversies surrounding Transport Minister P.M.L. Kalyanasundaram and on the stand against former Collector G. Ragesh Chandra, against whom the Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case of alleged wrongdoings in using tsunami funds.
Mr. Rangasamy should also clarify his stand on the controversy regarding Lieutenant Governor Iqbal Singh linking him with stud farm owner Hasan Ali, who is in custody.
Addressing a joint press conference here on Friday, Tamil Nadu State Committee member of the CPI(M) T. Murugan and local secretary of the party V. Perumal said the silence of the Chief Minister on all these issues was “intriguing.”

“People have started questioning why the Chief Minister is maintaining silence on all these issues, particularly the controversies surrounding Mr. Kalyanasundaram and Mr. Chandra,” Mr. Perumal said. By this time the Chief Minister should have issued a statement either denying or clarifying about the controversy surrounding his Cabinet colleague. But, he had not done either of it, Mr. Perumal said.
On the alleged misuse of tsunami funds, Mr. Murugan said though the CBI had registered a case against a top official such as the Collector, the Chief Minister had “not uttered a word” on the demand for a wider probe into the irregularities in allocating works for tsunami rehabilitation. If the Chief Minister continues his silence , the CPI(M) would organise meeting to expose the government, Mr. Perumal added.
