Chief Minister Jayalalithaa owes an explanation on why she refrained from criticising the Bharatiya Janata Party and its Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in her election campaign, said G. Ramakrishnan, State Secretary, Communist Party of India (Marxist), here on Sunday. Ms. Jayalalithaa was targeting the Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, but avoiding any criticism of the opportunistic alliance of “communal and casteist forces” forged by the BJP, he said.
“Ms. Jayalalithaa has been rightly criticising the anti-people policies of the United Progressive Alliance government and the DMK. We have no objection to this. When there is not much difference in the economic policies pursued by the Congress and the BJP, the question arises why she has not criticised the BJP or Mr.Modi,” Mr. Ramakrishnan told reporters.
“Ms. Jayalalithaa has said that the AIADMK is the main team in the election, but she has not indicated which side her party is at the national level. She needs to clarify where her party stands now,” Mr. Ramakrishnan said.
