Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary G. Ramakrishnan said the economy of the country was falling ever since the BJP-led NDA government assumed office, but communalism was growing at a faster pace.
Addressing reporters on the sidelines of the party’s 21st district conference at Tiruvattar in Kanyakumari district on Friday, he said law and order in the State had deteriorated in the three-and-a-half-year rule of the AIADMK and the administration now remained paralysed. He accused the State government of failing to keep its promise of maintaining law and order and addressing problems of people. Due to the wrong policies of the State government, over 1000 government schools were facing closure, he said.
Calling for the repeal of the Tamil Nadu Preservation of Private Forest Act, which was detrimental to native rubber growers, he called upon the Union government to ban import of rubber to check dwindling prices in the domestic market. Mr. Ramakrishnan received a torch brought from P. Perumal Memorial near Lotus Tank in Nagercoil to Tiruvattar and hoisted the party flag to mark the inauguration of the conference.
