A Sessions Court on Friday told counsel appearing for various parties in a criminal case relating to assault on Mandaveli S.Radhakrishnan that the trial should be expedited so that the matter could be disposed of early.
Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswati, is also facing the charges of assault on Radhakrishnan in the case.
The Foreshore Estate Police registered the case against him and others alleging that Mr. Radhakrishnan, his wife and an attendant were attacked by a gang in his house on September 20, 2002. Eleven persons had been cited as accused in the case. Ravi Subramaniam had turned approver.

The trial commenced in February 2011 before Additional Sessions Court and Radhakrishnan gave his deposition, while Ravi Subramaniam, the lone approver, turned hostile. Later, as the post of judge was vacant, the trial did not proceed. Recently, S.Somasekaran was posted as a Judge in the court. After recording statement of a witness on Friday, Mr.Somasekaran told counsel that the case had been pending for long and has to be disposed of as expeditiously as possible in view of the Madras High Court’s direction. He also said the complainant and some of parties in the case were senior citizens. The Judge also ordered the issuance of summons to witnesses and posted the matter for further hearing on July 30.
