Correspondent, headmistress get two years imprisonment

A court here has sentenced the correspondent and the headmistress of a school to two years imprisonment as a standard V student was electrocuted on the school premises three years ago.

According to prosecution, M. Balasundar (9), a fifth standard student of a school at Veeramanickapuram here was electrocuted when tried to switch off the motor in the school on March 27, 2012. He died on the spot.

Since the victim had collected the motor room key from anganvadi worker B. Soundari (50) of Veeramanickapuram and tried to switch off the motor, the police registered a case against her and against headmistress N. Selvabharathi, correspondent C. Pitchaiah and teacher Deivakani.

Judicial Magistrate V. Hajara, while acquitting Ms. Deivakani, sentenced Soundari, Pitchaiah and Selvabharathi to two years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 1,000 each on Thursday.
