The parliamentary constituencies of North Chennai and Tiruchendur [now called Tuticorin], both located in extreme corners of the State, have set records of sorts in Lok Sabha polls.
While North Chennai saw, in 1996, an overwhelming margin polled by the winner (3.89 lakh votes), Tiruchendur witnessed, in 1971, a close contest with the winner making it by a low margin of 26 votes. On both occasions, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam emerged winner.
This fact forms part of a Tamil publication brought out by the Press Information Bureau. At a brief function, the first copy of the publication, a Tamil version of “General Elections 2014 – Reference Handbook,” was received by A. Sivagnanam, Joint Chief Electoral Officer from K.M. Ravindran, Additional Director General of the PIB (Southern Region).

It explains various aspects such as the None of the Above (NOTA) option and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail.
