The Dharmapuri Principal District and Sessions Court has granted a conditional interim bail to the Salem-based nephrologist, V.M. Ganesan, here on Monday.
The Principal District and Sessions Judge (in charge), R. Anburaj, awarded the interim bail with the condition that Dr. Ganesan should sign the register at the Judicial Magistrate Court-I in Salem every day at 10 a.m. The judge ordered to submit the requisite sureties at the Pennagaram court. However, the bail plea of the doctor was vehemently opposed by the police.
The bail application moved by the doctor earlier at the Pennagaram Judicial Magistrate court was still pending.

The nephrologist was arrested on June 13 based on a complaint filed by A. Kathavarayan of Pennagaram that he had referred him to the tout N.S. Ayyavu when he wanted a kidney for his father, Aiyar.
The doctor was produced before the Pennagaram Judicial Magistrate Court by the police last week. They prayed for seven days police custody.
The court gave three days police custody for questioning, but he was produced before the court one day ahead of actual custody. In the meantime, the case was transferred to the CB-CID by the government on June 20.

The District Crime Branch registered a case against the doctor under Sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 471 (using forged documents as genuine), 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) and Section 19 of the Transplantation of Human Organs Act 1994.
