Collector U. Sagayam on Thursday warned officials of Madurai Aavin Union, which also covers Theni district, of stern action if the targets set for milk procurement were not met. He gave instructions to send him daily update on milk procurement through SMS and email.

Addressing a review meeting of procurement officers of the two districts, Deputy Registrar and other top officials of Madurai Aavin Union, the Collector, who is also the Special Officer of Aavin, added that officials achieving the targets would be recognised. He also called for immediate action to prevent diversion of milk to private dairies from the Milk Producing Cooperative Societies (MPCS). Officials must be “teachers and friends” with farmers. As they were failing to do so, farmers were approaching private dairies.

Mr. Sagayam said that officials who exceeded milk procurement targets consecutively for thee months would be given prizes. He also gave instructions to the officials to establish community fodder centres spread across five acres at villages.
