Collector M. Karunakaran inaugurated a water treatment plant at K. Navvaladi under Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project Neighbourhood Development Programme on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Karunakaran said the water treatment plant, costing about Rs. 35 lakh, would ensure regular supply of protected drinking water to the residents of K. Navvaladi. Since the district administration was actively implementing development works in the villages around Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project under the Rs. 500-crore neighbourhood development programme, the villages around the KKNPP would see a lot of development in the near future.
Besides construction of 10,000 permanent houses, each at a cost of Rs. 3 lakh, in the villages around the KKNPP, relaying of roads, installation of solar-powered streetlights, construction of primary health centres, etc., had been taken up under this scheme.

“Around 100 villages in the 13 beneficiary village panchayats will get protected drinking water as a new scheme will be executed under the KKNPP Neighbourhood Development Programme at the cost of Rs. 68 crore,” Dr. Karunakaran said.
The Collector also inaugurated an overhead tank and a mobile ration shop at Sooduyarnthanvilai and laid foundation stone for a panchayat service centre at Pulimankulam.
Radhapuram MLA S. Michael Royappan, Chairman of Tamil Nadu Housing Board R. Murugaiah Pandian, and Project Director, District Rural Development Agency, H. Vijayakumar were present.
