Collector honours rank holders

It was all smiles on the faces of students, who earned State recognition for having scored high marks in the SSLC examination. Not only the students, their parents and teachers were also delighted over their performances, which brought laurels to the district.

Scenes of joy were witnessed in the chamber of Collector M. Ravikumar, who also took pride in honouring the toppers, here on Friday. Tuticorin district, which stood seventh in the State, had produced 17 State ranks in the SSLC examinations.

The Collector shook hands with the meritorious students and gave away awards to them. .

With a pass percentage of 96.74, the district not only bettered the previous academic year’s performance, but also jumped to the seventh position from the eighth in the State.

This year, there was an improvement of 2.52 per cent over that of last year in the pass percentage. Last year, the pass percentage stood at 94.22, he said. Mr. Ravikumar appealed to the students to bring more and more laurels to Tuticorin in the coming years.

The Collector said that government schools should also come into the limelight by securing State ranks in the SSLC exams next year. However, government schools in the district had outperformed their previous year’s results. Out of the 84 government schools, 37 produced centum results with a pass percentage of 94.65.
