CM to participate in MGR birth centenary celebrations

Various competitions for students, medical camps will mark the 10-day event

Planning ahead: Ministers K.C.Veeramani and Nilofer Kafeel hold a meeting to discuss the arrangements for the MGR birth centenary celebrations on Friday.

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami would preside over the birth centenary celebrations of former Chief Minister M. G. Ramachandran at the Fort Ground, Vellore, on September 9. Commercial Taxes Minister K. C. Veeramani and Labour Minister Nilofer Kafeel held a meeting with officials belonging to various government departments on Friday, to discuss the arrangements.

According to a release, the celebration would be held for 10 days across the district. Cultural programmes, games and government department-related programmes would be organised.

Mr. Veeramani said that decorated vehicles showcasing the various schemes of the government would criss-cross the district.

Collector S.A. Raman said that there would be contests for students in poem writing, essay writing and elocution. Sport events, special medical camp and blood donation camp would also be organised. . Arrangements would also be made for transport facilities and uninterrupted power supply, besides providing drinking water and sanitation.

He wanted officials of all departments to coordinate.
