Villagers observe fast condemning inaction of the officials

Condemning the functioning of the Indian Made Foreign Liquor outlet near the bus stop in their village, residents of Kozhumadai near Mela Seval observed fast for a while on Wednesday.

The agitation was withdrawn after the police and revenue officials assured them that their demand would be fulfilled.

The protesting villagers said law and order issues in Kozhumadai had increased manifold after the IMFL outlet was opened in their hamlet on September 3.

After consuming alcohol, men in an inebriated condition were causing untold hardship to the public, especially to women and children, which had led to serious law and order issues.

Though repeated appeals had been made to the higher-ups, no action had been taken to close down the IMFL outlet. Hence, condemning the inaction, the villagers started observing a fast on Wednesday. However, the police and the revenue officials visited the village and persuaded them to give up their agitation with the assurance that their demand would be fulfilled shortly.
