September 3, 2004 —— A Sankararaman, Manager of Sri Varadarajaperumal temple in Kancheepuram, hacked to death.

Jan 10, 2005 —— Jayendra Saraswathi granted bail by Supreme Court. Junior pontiff Vijayendra Saraswati arrested in the case.

February 10, 2005 —— Vijayendra Saraswati granted bail by Madras High Court.
March 7, 2005 —— Madras High Court grants bail to senior pontiff for allegedly threatening Subramaniam.
May 6, 2005 —— Supreme Court issues notice to Tamil Nadu government on Jayendra Saraswati’s plea to transfer the case outside the state.
October 26, 2005 —— Supreme Court transfers the trial of Sankararaman murder case, to a court in Puducherry (Pondicherry then).
March 28, 2006 —— Charges framed against 24 accused.
April 2, 2009 —— Trial begins in Puducherry Principal District and Sessions Court.
January 21, 2010 —— Ravi Subramanian turns hostile in Puducherry court
March 21, 2013 —— An accused in Sankararaman murder case, Kathiravan, hacked to death in Chennai. Number of accused comes down to 23.
November 12, 2013 —— Principal Sessions court says it will deliver verdict on November 27.
November 27, 2013 ——The two seers and all other accused acquitted after prosecution failed to prove the case.
