Christian institution heads seek protection

Heads and office-bearers of Christian institutions coming under Church of South India – Diocese of Madras, Southern Area, today submitted a petition to the District Administration and police, seeking protection to their institutions from a group of persons, who were allegedly instigating trouble at the CSI Hospital, Kancheepuram.

According to the petition signed by 25 persons, including 15 holding the positions of Reverend Fathers, on July 18, an office staff member, T.J. Dharan was reportedly attacked by another member, Rajah Salomon, who was facing a disciplinary charges, and some outsiders. A case had been registered in this regard with the Siva Kanchi police.

Meanwhile, on July 20, the Bishop Rev. V. Devasagayam visited the hospital and convened a meeting to discuss measures to improve hospital services.

While the majority of the staff had accepted the suggestions of the Bishop, six staff members – Rajah Salomon, Kanagaraj, Dhamayanthi, Vijaya Paulos, Sheeba and Jashwa – and some outsiders attempted to attack the Bishop and Rev. Father S. Samuel of CSI Christ Church, the petition added.

However, the presence of police personnel at the hospital helped save the lives of the Bishop and Father S. Samuel.
