Chief Minister launches projects worth ₹532 crore

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami launched several projects on Wednesday.

Through video conference, he laid the foundation stone for the construction of a shutter for the Mukkombu dam as well as a sheet pile, a cut-off wall and a cofferdam to protect the reservoir from further damage.

An official release stated that work on the new shutter will be undertaken at a cost of ₹387.60 crore, and the other works will cost ₹38.85 crore. This apart, he also laid the foundation for various other projects, including the construction of canals and the desilting of waterways and lakes. The total cost of these projects, including the work on the Mukkombu dam, is estimated at ₹532.98 crore.

The Chief Minister flagged off four deep-sea fishing vessels and a state-of-the-art air-conditioned museum at the Chetpet Eco Park.

He also launched the construction of a 15-MW power plant and the upgrading of certain power plants at Cheyyar Co-operative Sugar Mills and Arignar Anna Sugar Mills at a cost of ₹115 crore.

Mr. Palaniswami inaugurated newly constructed buildings belonging to the Higher Education Department and presented five VHF sets to fishermen as part of a scheme under the Coastal Disaster Risk Reduction Project.

Announces solatium

He also announced a solatium of ₹3 lakh each to the families of 25 fire station personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
