Film director and actor Cheran appeared before the Judicial Magistrate court here on Monday in response to the court’s warrant, directing him to appear in person in connection with a cheque bounce case.
Judicial Magistrate II N. Veluchamy, who had ordered the issue of bailable warrant against Cheran and his daughter Nivetha Priyadarshini on March 10, recalled the warrant after recording Mr. Cheran’s appearance and adjourned the case to April 13 for further hearing.
Mr. Cheran, who arrived at the court around 10 a.m., spent more than two hours to complete the formalities.

The Magistrate recalled the warrant after Mr. Cheran executed a bond for Rs. One lakh with two sureties for the like sum, M. Somasundaram, his counsel, said. The bailable warrant issued against Ms. Priyadarshini was still pending as she has not appeared before the court, he said adding she could get the warrant recalled after appearing before the court.
The Magistrate had ordered issue of warrants after noting that Cheran and his daughter, representing C2H (Cinema2Home) Network Private Limited, failed to appear before the court in response to summons issued on February 10.
C. Palaniappan, who was appointed district distributor for C2H Network, filed a private complaint against the two after the company failed to take off and he did not get back the deposit of Rs. 8.40 lakh. Mr. Cheran had issued a cheque for the amount in August last year but it bounced when he presented it in a bank on three times, he said.
