Even as a complaint was sent to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday seeking a probe into the purported conversations involving former chief of Tamil Nadu intelligence M.S. Jaffar Sait, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi and others in connection with the alleged kickbacks in the allocation of 2G Spectrum, senior bureaucrats were huddled in a high-level meeting here to examine further course of action on the issue.
According to police sources, the State intelligence accessed the conversations and transcripts after the meeting held at the Secretariat. One A. Shankar of Maduravoyal who claimed to have come across fresh evidence in the 2G spectrum case has written to the CBI seeking registration of a case.
In his complaint addressed to the CBI Director, Mr. Shankar said the four conversations released by Aam Aadmi Party in New Delhi a couple of days ago had clear references made to the flow of funds to ‘Kalaignar TV’ (a Tamil television channel in which DMK president M. Karunanidhi’s family members hold shares) and how evidence was manipulated to mislead investigation in the case. He also named a few industrialists and alleged their involvement in the funding.

Describing the claim of ‘Kalaignar TV’ that it had taken a loan of Rs. 214 crore as a “sham,” Mr. Shankar said no investigation was done into how the loan was repaid by the channel. The loan theory floated by the television channel was a result of a criminal conspiracy involving some prominent persons, he charged and claimed that their act constituted a cognizable offence.
‘Kalaignar TV’ had released a statement on Wednesday, saying that the tapes were released with an ulterior motive. Attributing political motive, the channel also alleged that the conversations were fake.
