CBI must probe beach sand mining, says Stalin

:DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin on Monday demanded a CBI inquiry into the beach sand mining scam involving Rs. one lakh crore.

In his Facebook message, Mr Stalin said while monazite, used for manufacturing fissile materials, was strictly controlled by the Central government's Department of Atomic Energy and no private company was allowed to mine it, Tamil Nadu government violated the rules.

“It has not only given permission to mine it, but also allowed export of this material in spite of it being in the proscribed substances list,” he said.

Mr Stalin said senior IAS officer Gagandeep Singh Bedi's report on illegal mining had not been made public by the State government in spite of repeated RTI queries.

“The collusion of people in power with the mining mafia is definitive grounds for a CBI inquiry. The DMK demands a CBI inquiry to find the actual beneficiaries and bring to justice all those who perpetrated this mega scam,” he said.
